Why do I find that some of the best kernels of creativity I foster are borne of post-it notes? Gubgub was a dour faced Grinch I doodled over a lunch break that has become one of my favorite characters to work on thus far. I translated the post-it note to a more thoughtful (yet still incomplete) “doodle bob.”

I worked on the appendages and body roughly in Maya before bringing it into Zbrush to get more detail.

I also used Zbrush to test some colors. I wanted his environment and home to be on Earth so outlandish colors didn’t really suit him. I tried to stick to colors around the range of normal primates. Primates can be surprisingly colorful, as I found in my research.
I tried to stick to this array of colors and tried different combinations so it wouldn’t feel too alien.
