So I’ve been learning Marvelous Designer the proper way this time around. I’ve dabbled in it a few times before, but it doesn’t mean much if you don’t start on a good foundation. I’ve been following a Gnomon Workshop tutorial is honestly the best beginning tutorial I think I could have learned from, but from there I really REALLY want to be able to go into Marvelous Designer and say, “I can make absolutely anything.” Which is why I’m challenging myself to make all the outfits from Card Captor Sakura.
This is just a small example, but the costumes in the show are so varied and wild that I couldn’t pass up the chance. So here goes. I think it’s overly ambitious to say I could get one finished every day since I’m just starting to make my own assets with this.
I’m also studying my mother’s old textbooks from her time at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Currently I’m on “Designing Apparel Through The Flat Pattern.” It’s really been helpful.

The other day it took a while for me to find the right shape for the petticoat because initially I thought that most of her wide skirts would do well draped over a a ballerina tutu, but I ended up with a poofy 3 layer, 3 section petticoat instead. So there will probably be plenty of days of just figuring things out. I also don’t have a procedure for shoes yet. So, off I go!
